Ensemble Thinking™ (ET) is a continually developing system of collaborative group performance practices. These compositional scores refine the individual’s ability to perceive, initiate, and support collective action and provide discernable techniques for building artistic and social community. ET’s conceptual nature allows for a wide range of access across multiple backgrounds, aesthetics, and physical capabilities. Though its foundations are in dance, Ensemble Thinking’s collaborative skills are applicable to disciplines beyond dance.
In Ensemble Thinking™, we practice creating improvised, movement compositions together. We approach our time in the studio as a laboratory, using ET scores to research collaboration, awareness, power, and choice. We investigate, collect data, and re-investigate. We discuss and play with possibilities. By practicing different (physical) perspectives, experimenting with shape, space, and time, and articulating our observations and experiences, we broaden our range of awareness and movement, empower individual choice-making, and increase capacity for shared clarity and collective engagement.
